You’ve heard the routine: cleanse, tone, moisturize. Sometimes even exfoliate. But if you’re prone to acne, dryness or are worried about wrinkles and fine lines, there is more to consider than just the basics. Moisturizing is a very important step, and perhaps the most difficult for which to find the perfect product. Never fear; we’re here to help. Here are 3 things to consider when picking a moisturizer:
1. Choose based on your skin type
Perhaps you need an oil-free product like Skinceuticals B5 Gel if you have dry to normal skin. If you have normal to oily skin, perhaps you’re better with a Skinceuticals Daily Moisture. Not sure what your skin type is? Consult with a professional from Urban Nirvana who can give you good direction on which products would be the best for you. Most skin types should be able to mositurize every day after cleansing without clogging pores or breaking out. If the latter is happening, you might need to change your products.
2. Pay attention to the ingredients
The cosmetics industry isn’t always the most forthright. In fact, there is a lack of regulation about who can put “organic” or “natural” labels on their products. Though it’s not essential to go organic to find a good product, it is important to look at the first few ingredients on the bottle to give you an idea of what the product does. The more ingredients you can pronounce, the better.
3. Don’t skip the sunscreen
For Southerners and South Carolinians in particular, sun exposure is a way of life. We don’t think you should be avoiding it at all costs, but you need to protect yourself. If you know that you aren’t good about putting on sunscreen when you leave the house (yes, even in the winter), get a moisturizer with sunscreen. It’s not the ideal solution, but it’s a reasonable time-saver since moisturizing is a step that you do anyway. We recommend going with a 30 SPF at minimum.
Don’t fret; there is a moisturizer out there for everyone to keep your skin balanced, hydrated and young looking.
